Sister Cities International
More than 5 years ago, the city of Quepos / Manuel Antonio signed Sister Cities International protocol with the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Harry Bodaan, owner of the La Mansion Inn, has served as SCI Chairman for more than 5 years. He also serves as Vice President of the local Chamber of Commerce, Special Law Enforcement Assistant to Oscar Monge, Mayor of Quepos & the City Council, and is the liaison between Jack Seiler, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale and its various municipal departments.
Representing more than 2500 communities in 130 countries, Sister Cites International is a citizen diplomacy network creating and strengthening partnerships between the U.S. and communities abroad. As our "Shadow City" we seek to learn what makes Quepos' Sister City, Fort Lauderdale a successful city by sending annual delegations of the Quepos leadership and business community to Fort Lauderdale to meet with counterparts to enhance knowledge and experience, especially in regards to law enforcement, Ocean Rescue programs, the Chamber of Commerce, the Marine Industry, the Library, and Humanitarian programs. Fraternal Order of Police Members (F.O.P.)
As part of our local community projects, La Mansion Inn serves as the local watering hole for several of the city's police departments. It is here where our local departments have a chance to meet visiting guests from foreign government, state and municipal employees and to simply engage in friendly interaction with their fellow officers.
La Mansion Inn sponsors both professional and social programs and is working closely on an on-going basis with Sister City Fort Lauderdale in raising funds and logistical support for our law and safety departments. In Costa Rica, the police departments are notoriously under-equipped and understaffed. It is part of the Mission Statement of La Mansion Inn to support the local law enforcement agencies and we continuously seek financial support from the authorities in San Jose and elsewhere. To-date, we have raised substantial funds in order for us to buy equipment for the various departments and to financially assist the local police departments financially in order to help them do their jobs more effectively, especially in regard to local youth and tourists.
